NFL Offseason Moves
Since there aren't going to be any NFL games until at least August (pretty
please), I will put any NFL
news or updates here, including results from the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft in
April.
The news of the offseason so far has got to be the
on-going talks between the NFL owners and the players
union. Of course all of the rhetoric is going to be
flying about a lock-out and no 2011 NFL season; but I
believe that this is all just posturing between the two
sides.
Both sides stand to lose out on a huge amount of money
and will anger and alienate the fan bases. If you don't
think a missed NFL season will affect the overall
popularity domination that it currently has, think
again. From the owners perspective, a lot of them need
the money coming in so they can pay for the stadiums
that a lot of them built recently.
From the players perspective, ask the NHL players if
they would like that year of their lives back. The NHL
lockout a couple of years ago was devastating to the
niche sport from up North. The owners eventually got
exactly what they wanted, but they are no longer
considered 1 of the 4 main sports.
Not that anything that bad would happen to the NFL. It
is much stronger then the MLB was before the 1994
strike. That strike was the event that put the NFL in
the driver seat for good (?)
So until they get this label dispute settled, there may
not be any offseason moves to report about.
Here are a couple of great NFL related sites that you
should take a look at:
NFL Stadiums - Find out anything you would like to
know about any of the 31 NFL football stadiums. You can
also find
cheap NFL tickets there as well.
Do you like fantasy football? Then take a look at the
Fantasy Football manager. You can take a look at
drafting advice and positional rankings each year before
your fantasy football draft. There are also occasional
fantasy football tips for free agent pickups and injury
alerts.
2010 NFL News
Here are a couple of the bigger names that have moved
teams so far in free agency:
Nate Burleson signed with the Detroit Lions and should
give them an interesting one-two punch with him and
Calvin Johnson. Calvin was really bottled up last year
and got hurt because no one else could get open.
Another very interesting move was when the New York Jets
released veteran running back Thomas Jones. Jones was
later picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs. This will
also set up a one-two punch at running back between
Jones and late season stand-out Jamaal Charles.
Also, unrestricted free agent running back Chester
Taylor has signed with the Chicago Bears. This should
give them a spark in a running game that fell flat last
year with second year RB Matt Forte all alone at the
helm.
The rumors about Terrell Owens going to Cincinnati and
joining the two biggest WR egos in the league doesn't
appear to be happening. Cincinnati went ahead and signed
the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Antonio Bryant.
Bryant has a lot of potential but was injured often last
year and played for one of the worst passing teams in
the league. He may find his own opposite Ochocinco.
2010 NFL Draft
One of the fun things I'm going to try with this years
NFL draft is to bring some of the different draft
predicting games here. As we get closer to late April, I
will be updating this page with any pertinent
information.
One thing I absolutely insist on is keeping all the
updates any game that I find to a minimum of the first
two rounds of the draft. After that, there is no really
continuity and the only thing that will interest you is
what players your team picked.
Top NFL News
Of Course the big news of the offseason
so far in the NFL is LaDainian Tomlinson being cut from the San
Diego Chargers.
The most recent news has LT
interested and meeting with both the Minnesota Vikings
and the New York Jets, both of whom have lost a running
back in the opening week of free agency.
Either team should be a good
fit with LT, especially if he can be used as a 3rd down
back behind Adrian Peterson.
In other news, Tim Tebow
scored low on his Wonderlic test, which is a pretty
important tool for Quarterbacks. Call it a hunch, but I
don't think he will be jump shooting any TDs in the NFL
as a starting QB.
