NCAA March Madness Picks
Updated 3/11/2011 - I will be making several picks for this upcoming NCAA
basketball tournament and will be updating this page soon! The content
below is a recap of the picks that I made last year in the 2010
tournament.
Here are a couple of great source that I found for the 2011 March Madness
tournament:
BestSportsGambling.com - Find out news from the latest college and pro
betting sites and major sports updates.
March Madness Promotions - Every year, a lot of the sportsbooks come
out with bonuses and promotions in time for the NCAA College Basketball
tournament. This is when the betting starts to heat up on certain games.
Take a look at the current sportsbook promotions.
This is going to be a trend that I'm setting for each of the different
categories that I've made. I'm going to pick two games out of the 16 being
played in the first round.
The first is an upset alert that I had already given in my
march madness tips.
Right now, BetUS has Minnesota as a 1 point favorite as the 11 seed over
6th seeded Xavier. I was hoping that the line on this game would have been
the other way around at least. I'm feeling more confident about this pick
though because all my criteria for an upset is there. Minnesota played in
the Big 10 conference tournament championship game; Xavier got knocked out
of the A10 tournament in the second round. Minnesota was on the bubble
after losing in overtime to Ohio State; Xavier was comfortably in.
Minnesota has nothing to lose and will probably play that way tomorrow, so
I am taking Minnesota (-1).
The second game I will pick is going to be Oakland University vs
Pittsburgh. I already mentioned Oakland in my tips as well. They have not
come close against the four ranked
teams they have played this year. The good teams have been beating them by
about an average of 30. They didn't even win games within their own
conference (Summit) by more than 10 points and struggled to beat weak
opponents. That's why I'm taking the 3 seed Pittsburgh (-10).
Other interesting games according to the lines: 4 seed Vanderbilt is only
a 3 point favorite against 13 seed Murray State. I don't think the game
will be that close, but maybe there's a good reason why the line is close
on this game. *I guess the sportsbooks know what they are doing - Murray
State upset at the buzzer*
As expected, most of the 5-12 matchups are very tight with
the exception of Michigan State and New Mexico State which has MSU favored
by 13 1/2. Siena and Purdue is also another upset alert according to the
lines makers. Purdue is only favored by 4 and Siena has won in the first
round the last two years.

Update - A couple of Big East Tournament upsets have taken place. 8 seed
Georgetown upended 1 seed Syracuse and 7 seed Notre Dame sneaks by 2 seed
Pittsburgh. Three of the top 4 seeds have already been knocked out of the
tournament.
Conference USA also saw three of the top 4 seeds go down as 1 seed UTEP is
in position to take the tournament championship.
Also a couple of ACC upsets to note as well. 12 seed Miami had already
defeated 5 seed Wake Forest when they followed that up with another upset
of 4 seed Virginia Tech. 11 seed NC State won a squeaker against Clemson
and are poised to play 3 seed Florida State tonight.
In the Big Ten Tournament, top seed Ohio State received a big scare from 8
seed Michigan and has to hit a shot at the buzzer to win a one point game.
In the West Coast Conference title game, Saint Mary's ran over their
rivals and favored14th ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs by almost 20 points.
