It is almost tournament time again! Time for the Big Dance as Selection Sunday is right around the corner. If you are not much of a College basketball fan, you might not know much about any of the teams that are poised to make the NCAA tournament. If you need to get caught up really quickly, I would take a look at this article about Championship Week this year.

Best NCAA College Basketball Bracket Contests

Bovada has a contest that is going to start this Monday, March 12 at Noon ET. This is the next day after all the brackets have been released and we find out which teams on the bubble didn't make it this year.

This tournament has a $50,000 Prize Pool, with the grand prize winner getting $10,000 and the top 250 brackets will receive at least $50.

A lot of the other contests that are offered by the various online sportsbooks usually stop there with the perfect bracket prize. Otherwise, they will have a couple of prizes to win for the top players.

But in the Bovada Bracket Buster 12, that top prize is just the tip of the iceberg. The first place winner will get $10,000! In total, the top 250 brackets will win cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $50. The top 4 brackets will all win over $1,000 and a top 50 bracket will net you at least $200!

It is a very simple bracket system. You will receive 1 point for every correct pick that you make. There is a total of 63 points that can be won. You will be required to complete your brackets before Thursday, March 15 at 9:00AM ET.

Intertops hosts an annual bracket tournament that will be open from March 14th until the first tournament game tips off on Thursday, March 15. This contest also has a prize for correctly picking all 63 tournament games. You will get $25,000 for picking all the games correct.

But that's lame. Where are the real prizes?

Not to worry, the reason I like this bracket contest is because the $25,000 prize pool is split up between the top 25 brackets submitted (unless someone actually picks all the games correctly). Want to know the best part? If you finish in the top 25 in this contest, you will automatically win $1,000. The prize money gets split equally between the winners.

2012 Super Bowl XLVI

The big game is almost here! This is the single biggest one-day sports event on the planet. Everyone already knows all of the matchups between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. The Pats are 3 point favorites to win; however, being the underdog did not stop Eli Manning from stunning New England back in 2008.

Most people will be watching the game on TV, but a lot of people are going to have rooting interests outside of the New York and Boston areas. This is because the Super Bowl is the game with the most gambling bets placed on it. Super Bowl betting has become very big business. You can literally choose from hundreds of different bets.

Here is a brief version of the different bets that can be placed on the Super Bowl:

Spread Bet: The current spread on the game is 3 points with New England being the favorite to win. That means if you bet on New England to cover the spread, you are betting that the Patriots will win by 4 points or more. If you are betting on New York, the Giants either can win or lose by 2 points or less to cover the spread. You will usually have to bet $110 to win $100 (10% juice).

Money Bet: You are betting on a team to win the game. The odds will be different then the spread bet. The Patriots are at 7/5 odds meaning that you will have to wager $140 to win $100. The Giants have 5/6 odds meaning that you can wager $100 to win $120. The $20 difference between the two is where the sportsbooks take their juice.

Total Bet: You are betting on the total points that will be scored in a game. The Over/Under of Super Bowl XLVI is 53.5 points. If you bet the Over, you will need the two teams to combine for 54 points or more; the Under will win if the teams combine for 53 points or less.

Prop Bets: Usually, there are a limited number of prop bets that you can wager on for a regular season game. These are usually over/under bets for Individual and Team Stats on offense and defense. For the Super Bowl, there are literally hundreds of different prop bets to choose from. You can bet which team will win the coin toss, what the first offensive play will be, which team will score first and so on.

Additional Point Spreads and Game Totals: If you want to make your bet easier or harder, you can adjust the point spread or total. You will get better odds if you make the spread more difficult and still win. For example, you might take the New England Patriots to win by more than 10 points. If you bet $100, you would win $210. However, if you reverse that give New England 3 points like an underdog, you will have to bet $275 to win $100.
